MEET
JON BATTY

Jon began his career in one of the most demanding environments on earth serving a decade in the Royal Marines spending the majority of his career within the Mountain Leader Branch. His work took him across the globe, leading teams in some of the harshest climates imaginable.

He instructed and led ski-touring and survival training in Norway, worked alongside the British Antarctic Survey in Antarctica exploring glaciers and collecting research samples, and crossed remote regions such as the Falkland Islands and South Georgia on foot. His experience also extended to climbing in the French and Swiss Alps, delivering vertical assault training to Special Forces units in Saudi Arabia, and supporting international mountain training in Albania. Alongside this, he ran canoeing, kayaking and mountaineering events and expeditions throughout the UK.

These years of service and exploration shaped Jons approach to physical preparation one built on resilience, precision and adaptability. The demands of the mountain environment taught him the true meaning of capability. Being fit not just to perform, but to endure.

After leaving the forces, Jon transitioned into civilian life, working as an electrician and focusing on family and stability. Like many who step away from military and expedition life, he found himself disconnected from the sense of purpose and challenge that had once driven him. Training became inconsistent and the structured discipline of his former life faded into long workdays and routine.

In time, he returned to training initially with the same all-or-nothing approach that had served him in the Marines. But this method quickly led to burnout and frustration. It was through these experiences that Jon began to redefine his understanding of training. He realised that fitness was no longer about chasing performance for its own sake but it was more about rebuilding the freedom and presence that came from being capable in the outdoors.

Driven by that realisation, Jon became deeply invested in understanding human performance through study. Over the years he has completed numerous courses in strength and conditioning, endurance coaching, nutrition and behaviour change, drawing from a range of respected organisations and coaches. He has read widely from physiology and biomechanics to psychology and coaching philosophy developing a broad, evidence-based understanding of how people move, adapt, and perform.

He’s become known for his ability to connect principles from multiple disciplines taking complex training concepts and making them simple and applicable to real life. His pursuit of knowledge is ongoing and he continues to study and refine his approach with the goal of helping others cut through confusion and focus on what truly works.

From this understanding, Built For More was created. A platform designed to help others rediscover that same balance between strength, adventure and real life. His philosophy blends structured strength and conditioning with endurance training and outdoor practice, helping people prepare not only for the mountains, but for the demands of life itself.

Jons approach moves beyond aesthetics and even performance metrics. His aim is to help people develop functional strength, mental clarity and the confidence in their ability to live fully through outdoor challenge. His mission is to guide others in building the capability to explore and reconnect with what truly matters - adventure, health, and quality of life.

Today, Jon continues to combine his military experience, technical coaching education and passion for the outdoors to guide a growing community of individuals who want to live with more intent. Through Built For More, he shares the principles of discipline and adaptability that shaped his own path.
