STARTING POINT
When Matt initially came to me he had been struggling with back and knee pain for years. With his work as a mechanical engineer he is constantly in awkward positions which made his pain worse.
The initial goal was to get Matt into a good training routine which was progressive and steady. The plan took into account his long shift patterns. We started by building strength in his core strength through some steady home workouts on a couple of his working days and then some slightly longer sessions in the gym on his days off.
12 WEEKS LATER
As his core began to get stronger and the back ache gradually reduced we got him back out on the mountain bike and we build up his sessions in the gym to be more challenging. We also looked at improving his nutrition to which he is now smashing a great routine and is well organized for his shift work.
Recently I joined Matt for a fairly technical and long mountain bike ride in the hills in the Peak District to which he had no issues and was pain free throughout.
